Unseen London Tour (Media)
Our client approached us to create a bespoke activity for entertaining 30 VIP international journalists on their visit to St Ermin's Hotel, the newest addition to the M Gallery Group in London. Guests were to experience the very best that London City has to offer before jetting off to their home countries of Germany, Italy, Spain and the USA.
Challenges
The Penguins Event Planning team had to create a truly unique tour of London within a two hour slot, avoiding the usual tourist traps. Since most of the journalists had visited London, the challenge was to design an ‘Unseen London Tour’ from the perspective of a Londoner that would appeal to a mix of international cultures.

Solution
After some extensive research, the Penguins’ Event Management team put the wheels in motion and created a truly unique experience, not featured in any London Tourist Guide Book. The ‘Unseen London Tour’ was born. A convoy of private traditional black cabs collected guests from the hotel and then gave a personal guided tour of London pointing out areas of interest and relaying historical stories.
First stop was Barney’s Seafood in London’s famous historical fish market Billingsgate. Freshly cooked jellied eels were served under the old rail arch in Chambers Street whilst a professional actor talked through the history behind this East London delicacy. An acquired taste it has to be said!
Next stop was The Ten Bells Pub – the most famous pub in Ripper history on the corner of Commercial Street and Fournier Street, Spitalfields. The group were led down a haunted alley by two ladies of the night who imparted gory stories of Jack the Ripper’s escapades.
Pausing for a much needed pint at Dicken’s local, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, the group then made their way to London’s most renowned fresh food wholesaler, Borough Market. Feasting their eyes on a dazzling array of fresh British produce set the scene for the grand finale. Lunch!
Lunch was held at London’s Roast Restaurant overlooking Borough Market where the group sampled a traditional British Food menu including Slow Roast Wicks Manor pork belly and Pot Roast feather blade of beef. A fitting tribute to what was a very British ‘Unseen Tour of London.’
