Girls Night Out with: W Hotel and Meridien Piccadilly
November 23rd, 2011 by Clare
As the clocks went back the Penguins girls hit the London scene once more. This time they experienced the delights of the iconic W Hotel just off Leicester Square - a first for the Starwood group in the UK. “Cool, funky and sexy” say the girls unanimously. Just the venue for London’s media set and budding Fashionistas. The London Meridien, Piccadilly went down well too with its newly refurbished on brand red revamp.

You can’t fail to be impressed with the W hotel – it’s chic and cool beyond belief. A white illuminated cube filled with glass, definitely the “Apple” of the hotel industry. We just loved the location in happening Leicester Square above Europe’s first M & M store, brilliant for that all important chocolate fix. As soon as we walked in we knew it was something special with ceiling clad glitter balls throughout and a lobby lift to the main reception.
Feeling peckish we popped into the Spice Market restaurant admiring its wall-to-wall spice jars and funky Wok lights. Greeted like long lost friends, we sampled the Pan Asian menu with relish. “The calamari was amazing and the salt & pepper squid was to die for.” said Louise.

We could have stayed all night sampling the delights of the Orient but we had so much more to see. OMG! Club Wyld offers the perfect private party venue for around 80 corporate guests with a raised option for special VIP directors’ meetings or product launches.
The private screening room was a real find though we didn’t get to see inside. Who knows which A-list celebrities were sitting behind closely guarded doors watching Spielberg’s TinTin in 3-D. Can’t think where to host your next Board meeting? Then check out the Wow Suites 1and 2 perfect for smaller events and meetings. Partying large (up to 50 guests), then P-Diddy style Penthouse E Wow suite won’t disappoint those looking for a contemporary venue with urban twist for that special event/drinks reception.
Guest rooms were impressive with a total of 192 to choose from. BTW, the highlight for Louise was the sliding door wardrobe which provides added security by sliding in front of the hotel room door. And that’s why we love her!
In need of some much needed refreshment we hit the W Cocktail bar (naturally) and tried a couple of Lady Chatterley signature drinks. The bar was buzzing by this time and one for the road turned into two more!

The night was still young so on to London Meridien, Piccadilly. Expecting floral chi chi, we were pleasantly surprised to find classic and contemporary with a striking red theme throughout. From the grand traditional ballroom with its gorgeous chandeliers to a cosy traditional gentleman’s bar area, it would suit those looking for a modern but traditional venue for their London event or Awards show. Bedrooms in abundance all newly refurbished and a choice of Godiva chocolates with our coffee - what’s not to like. The W Hotel or London Meridien Piccadilly gets the Penguins’ vote!
